RAYA AND THE LAST DRAGON: Kelly Marie Tran Voices Disney’s Newest Animated Heroine In The First Teaser Trailer

The first official trailer is now out for Disney’s newest animation, Raya And The Last Dragon.

Bearing this in mind, it’s worth noting the studio just recently released its live-action feature, Mulan on Disney+, and so for its latest follow-up here with a story that immerses itself in South Asian culture, with an albeit fictional setting and martial arts set pieces, it’s a little odd that Moana and Frozen get nods here instead.

I get it though. That is, without going into a load of detail, I do.

Long ago, in the fantasy world of Kumandra, humans and dragons lived together in harmony. But when an evil force threatened the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Now, 500 years later, that same evil has returned and it’s up to a lone warrior, Raya, to track down the legendary last dragon to restore the fractured land and its divided people. However, along her journey, she’ll learn that it’ll take more than a dragon to save the world—it’s going to take trust and teamwork as well.

Raya And The Last Dragon is directed by Don Hall and Carlos López Estrada, and co-directed by Paul Briggs and John Ripa, and features the voices of Kelly Marie Tran as Raya and Awkwafina as the last dragon Sisu.

The studio currently plans on releasing the pic in March of next year, though time will tell just what happens by then as exhibitors continue to contend with possible bankruptcy and a pandemic that’s all but changed our economic atmosphere for the long haul.
