RED 48: Tyrese Gibson Action Thriller Nears Completion With Michael Jai White and John Malkovich

Universal Pictures

Jon Keeyes (The Harrowing) is currently busy with independent action thriller, Red 48, with word that production is close to wrapping this week. As Borys Kit at THR notes, Tyrese Gibson is headlining the pic along with Michael Jai White and John Malkovich from a script by Mickey Solis.

The film reportedly centers on Kyle Snowden, “a troubled former Marine turned child protective service officer who must save an immigrant child from a dangerous criminal who has trapped them and other hostages inside a convenience store. Adding more power to the keg: The store is owned by the Snowden’s stepfather, Sam Safty, being played by Malkovich. White plays Sparks, the Safty’s no-nonsense bodyguard and confidant.”

Gibson is also producing with Keeyes, along with Yale Productions’s Jordan Yale Levine and Jordan Beckerman. Jesse Korman is co-producing for Yale, whose Michael Rothstein is exec producing with the following: Zachary Tarica of The Forest Road Company, Matt Helderman and Luke Taylor of BondIt Media Capital, Roman Kopelevich and Roman Viaris of Red Sea Media, Three Point Capital, Shaun Sanghani and Luke Daniels.

The film is Gibson’s latest production following a trailer premiere earlier this year for his role in Universal’s ensemble Fast franchise thriller, F9, which bows next summer after its 2020 release was pulled due to the Coronavirus pandemic. He will also star in Sony Pictures’s upcoming adaptation, Morbius, opposite Jared Leto.

White just wrapped principal photography next to Gillian White for Christian Sesma’s Take Point. Both will star later this year in Dallas Jackson’s Welcome To Sudden Death, with White steering his own in-house production, The Outlaw Johnny Black, a spirited Western follow-up to 2009’s Black Dynamite.
