REMINISCENCE: ‘Westworld’ Showrunner Sets Action Sci-Fi Directing Debut For Late 2019 Start

It was back in January ahead of EFM that Hugh Jackman and actress Rebecca Ferguson (The Greatest Showman) were circled for roles in the forthcoming action sci-fi, Reminiscence. It was reportedly a hot package among buyers and thus, developments this week bring word that Warner Bros. has acquired global rights to the project with principal photography commencing around late October in New Orleans and Miami.

Mike Fleming Jr. who has extensively covered the film’s development at Deadline since January, states that the film aims to share that similar layered, complex tone and vision that Lisa Joy has become known for in applying her craft to the hit HBO series, Westworld, on which she serves as writer and showrunner with Kilter Films’ Jonathan Nolan. Both will produce Reminiscence which will also mark Joy’s solo directing debut from her script.

Reminiscence follows one man’s journey to find the woman he loves after her mysterious disappearance. Jackman stars as Nicolas Bannister, a rugged and solitary veteran living in a near-future Miami flooded by rising seas. Bannister is an expert in a dangerous occupation — he offers clients the chance to relive any memory they desire. His life changes when he meets Mae, played by Ferguson. What begins as a simple matter of lost and found becomes a passionate love affair. But when a different client’s memories implicate Mae in a series of violent crimes, Bannister must delve through the dark world of the past to uncover the truth about the woman he fell for. An epic story that travels the intimate and infinite world of memory, Reminiscence asks: How far would you go to hold on to the ones you love?

Also producing are Michael De Luca and Aaron Ryder, with Athena Wickham and Elishia Holmes serving as executive producers. Paul Cameron, also of Westworld which has a third season in tow, will lens as DoP.

Reminiscence is a Kilter Films, Michael De Luca Productions and FilmNation Entertainment co-production. (Deadline)
