Ric Meyers’ KUNG FU EXTRAVAGANZA XXIV Takes To The Movie Dojo This Summer!

Hi-Yah!/Twitter

While Comic Con has long been home to Ric Meyers’ Kung Fu Extravaganza, this week saw word that the convention was cancelling the event’s 24th annual run when the two-day festivities kick off in July.

Gladly for those who’ve been keen on Meyers’ versatile experience in movies, books and journalism over the years, including the aforementioned panel, plans are officially underway for YouTube personality Preston Downey – a.k.a. “That Phat Samurai Guy” to take the reigns this year via his channel, The Movie Dojo. The panel will stream on the channel on Tuesday, July 22 at 6:00 pm Pacific Standard Time, 9:00pm EST.

Downey, along with wife and film enthusiast Lauren who goes by the pseudonym, “Lady Phatblood”, began his pastime as a film critic in 2015 discussing a wide variety of Asian movies and action cinema, trailer reactions, collectibles and more. In the last several years, including in 2020 as the pandemic set in, he’s anted up on at-home content featuring interviews with filmmakers, producers and stars, as well as other YouTubers, including well knowns like Sunny Pang (Headshot), filmmaker Isaac Florentine (Ninja: Shadow Of A Tear), and action star Richard Norton (China O’Brien, Mr. Nice Guy).
