Warner Bros. is reportedly reviving Rin Tin Tin according to Deadline‘s Mike Fleming Jr.. Matt Lieberman (Scoob, Playing With Fire) is said to be developing a feature film script based on the film based on the classic hero hound film, television and radio franchise that launched the 1920s – here centered on “an elite military dog on a covert mission to prevent a large scale attack.”

Fleming Jr. reports the decision comes in the wake of the Barisha raid in which Conan, the hero German Shepherd was injured. The infiltration eventually saw ISIL leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi blow himself up with a suicide vest. The report also cites the bronze paw print medal the President is shown awarding to the dog (the photo Fleming Jr. describes reads like the photoshopped image Trump tweeted last month; the U.S. military reportedly suspended the practice of awarding medals to dogs after 1944).

Andrew Lazar’s Mad Chance (American Sniper, Cats & Dogs) will produce with the rights holders Sasha Jenson and Jeff Miller, with a vision in mind to proliferate the canine hero as “a modern action star, the John Wick of dogs”; Stahelski’s latest installment of the Keanu Reeves-led franchise puts ample use to a pair of Belgian Malinois hounds for the role of Sofia, played by Halle Berry, working much in favor to the film’s box office reception this summer. Heroism aside, it appears mans’ best friend really is in the market to be a kick-ass action hero.

More to come.
