Ross Clarkson is an ACS and HKSC certified cinematographer and director of photography, whose body of work expands from his native Australia to Hong Kong and the U.S. His films include Undisputed 2 and 3, Belly Of The Beast and Mission Impossible (TV series) among other films, working with such filmmakers as Ringo Lam, Isaac Florentine and Simon West, and shooting some of the world’s biggest well-known actors and action stars like Scott Adkins (Ninja), Tony Leung Kai-Fai (The Victim), Jean-Claude Van Damme (In Hell) and Dolph Lundgren (The Mechanik) to name a few. Soon you will see even more of his work when Adkins returns to the screen to harness his skills once more as a ninja in the upcoming film, Ninja 2, directed by Florentine, and also starring Kane Kosugi, with action director Tim Man serving as fight choreographer.
This week, Clarkson is looking to spread his wings with a new occupation to add to his resume as the writer and director of Hammer-On, a brutal martial arts action comedy he is pitching to help finance via croudfunding venue, Indiegogo. The reel is hosted by Clarkson, and features in-character cast members Byron Gibson and Nadia Ivanova explaining the story about an eccentric underdog fight promoter is who gets in serious trouble with a Russian seductress after his fighter loses a match, forcing him on a desperate search for another fighter as soon as possible to help pay off his debt. The campaign video also features stuntman, action director and co-star Brahim Achabbakhe, showcasing a brief reel illustrating the kind of action fans can look forward to.
In my opinion, Hammer-On is just the kind of martial arts movie that genre fans can look forward to. If you know who Clarkson and Achabbakhe are, you can fully understand how much experience is being almagamated here to materialize what could be another potentially great action classic. And to top it off, Ross Clarkson is one of the best in his field. He has proven to be an expert and a valuable asset to a genre of film that still lights its base up no matter where in the world. And it makes me proud to see Clarkson and Achabbakhe taking to greater heights to keep the martial arts action genre alive and kicking.
