RUROUNI KENSHIN: KYOTO INFERNO Sets Ablaze In The UK Later This Month!

If your name is Otomo Keishi and you make movies for a living, chances are you’ve been having an awesome year, and the accolades that have been pouring with the recent releases of the two-part finale of the Rurouni Kenshin saga, are nothing short of proof. Both Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno and Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends – the remaining two films to the titular trilogy that began in 2012, have reached major box office heights with both films topping each other upon their releases between August and September throughout parts of Asia. This, on top of any and all reviews and critiques since then, speaks fervently of the films’ overall reception by fans far and wide who’ve grown to love the original source material and the recent films, and much to the favor of leading actor Satoh Takeru in the title role.
What is troubling is that big screen releases of these films have been gravely scant beyond Japan and its pan-Asian theatrical push (discounting piracy, of course), which to me is nonsensical. BUT, if you live in the UK then fear not! Warner Bros. UK is releasing Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno at the end of the month with a date likely to be set for the third film. So, with respect to Londoners, the Irish, Scots and the like, feel free to peep the official announcment below if you so fancy it.

The release of RUROUNI KENSHIN in 2012 was the first of its kind – taking in more than 3 billion Yen at the Box Office, the Japanese film entered a new era. Based on the monumental manga comic by Nobuhiro Watsuki  ‘Kenshin the Wanderer: The Romance of the Meiji Swordsman’ which has sold more than 5.8 million copies and been translated into more than 20 languages, the commercial film combined unparalleled speed and overwhelming action in a moving human drama.

Two years after the shocking prologue and in anticipation of it’s UK theatrical release this November, Warner Bros. UK are releasing the brand new artwork for the epic action sequel – “RUROUNI KENSHIN 2: KYOTO INFERNO”

SYNOPSIS

Kenshin Himura (Takeru Satoh) is a legendary swordsman, a hero in the wars preceding the turbulent fall of Japan’s Shogunate in the 19th century. Once feared as ‘Battosai the Killer’, with the arrival of the new Japanese age and nursing the pain of losing many of his companions he is now a lone wanderer, roaming the land seeking to be of service to those in need.  Fate however, had taken hold of Kenshin’s future and was now guiding him toward a new destiny.

Without warning he is summoned by Home Minister Toshimichi Okubo (Kazufumi Miyazawa), and is informed that Makoto Shishio (Tatsuya Fujiwara), his successor in the service of the new government, believed to be dead, is in fact both alive and plotting in Kyoto. Driven by a burning revenge Shishio commands a private army of bloodthirsty mercenaries and is planning to overthrow the government and will stop at nothing to take control.   In that moment it becomes clear why he has been summoned; Kenshin is the only man alive who can find Shishio… and stop him.

Kenshin must summon every warrior skill he possesses to fight dangerous and brutal enemies along fate’s journey; leading to the ultimate bloody confrontation… blade on blade, soul against soul.

Rurouni Kenshin 2: Kyoto Inferno (cert.15) will be released in selected UK cinemas on Friday 28th November 2014, courtesy of Warner Bros. UK.

The two-part epic finale is currently running its course at the Japanese Film Festival in parts of Austraila and New Zealand before then. For now though, the original bridge trailer is just below.
