Ryan Coogler Will Write And Direct Marvel’s BLACK PANTHER 2

The Hollywood Reporter‘s own Borys Kit has confirmed a return at the helm for Ryan Coogler on Black Panther 2 following it’s domestic and global success at the box office. Scripting will begin as early as next year with plans to roll cameras in late 2019 or 2020 while Coogler and Black Panther co-star Michael B. Jordan complete their current efforts on school testing drama, Wrong Answer.

Having stood the test of time since 1966 as the Marvel Comics brainchild of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Black Panther affirmed its profile in fine fashion debuting solo on the big screen on February 16. Coogler penned the script with Joe Robert Cole for the character’s continuation after Captain America: Civil War, fully immersing moviegoers around the world into the fictional, otherwise mythical, hidden land of Wakanda.

Starring Chadwick Boseman, we meet T’Challa as he embarks on a mission to save his land from the deadly usurpation of Wakanda’s thrown by the son of a murdered exile, played by Jordan. Upon becoming a social and cultural phemonemon among comic book cinephiles and prolifically within the black community, the film reportedly earned $700 million dollars in the U.S., adding to its $1.3 billion dollar global gross total.

Boseman, currently filming crime thriller 17 Bridges, is expected to reprise his role returning him to the MCU once again following the next Avengers installation’s premiere on May 3, 2019. Coogler also serves as executive producer on Jordan’s return to the boxing arena this November for director Stephen Caple Jr.’s Creed 2.
