SDCC 2013: Ultron To Bridge CAPTAIN AMERICA 2 With AVENGERS 2: AGE OF ULTRON

According to a statement from Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier co-director Joe Russo via The Huffington Post, the character, Ultron, will likely appear at the end of his upcoming film, which he says establishes there being a significant relevance between the end of the 2012 Marvel’s The Avengers, and his own film. “There’s a very strong connection in the narrative between the events of the end of Marvel’s The Avengers that drive this film [Captain America: The Winter Soldier] and there’s a very strong hand off to The Avengers: Age of Ultron at the end of this movie.” he says “And Kevin Feige’s whole thing is that this is the biggest bridge of all of Phase 2 movies; it really is. It does involve the most amount of Avengers of any of the films in Phase 2, and it has sort of a, you know, there’s a very big shift in the universe at the end of this movie.”

The character, Ultron, appears to pop-up consistently in light of recent speculative discourse about the pending storyline for the Marvel’s The Avengers 2: Age Of Ultron, where it was speculated prior to updates of being featured in the James Gunn-directed Guardians Of The Galaxy, that Thanos would be the villain instead, given the ending shown in Marvel’s The Avengers. The film was announced with high praise and cheers during Marvel’s Hall H panel on Saturday, July 20 at the San Diego Comic Con in California, when director Joss Whedon showcased a brief animation teaser that illustrated the official title for the film. The character, Ultron is based on 10-issue comic book spinoff series released earlier this year.

The character is also heavily tied to Marvel superhero, Ant-Man, who is also due to kick-off Marvel’s Phase 3 movie continuation by November 6, 2015, from director Edgar Wright. Mention of this has also led to some dialogue about whether or not Ant-Man will make some kind of appearance in Avengers 2, possibly in a post-credits scene, according to Moviepilot writer Lars Johnson who writes, “At the end of The Avengers 2 (post-credits) there might be a tease of Ant Man. That is extremely possible because most Marvel movies (post-credits) lead into others, but it could not happen, maybe Phase Two will only have clever humor (see: Iron Man 3 post-credits with Bruce Banner). That Avengers 2 tease could really boost numbers. After Ant-Man, Marvel will most likely have an Avengers 3. Maybe he could be in that.”

Contrary to the talk however, i09 acquired a statement from Whedon himself, confirming the absence of Ant-Man from Avengers 2, stating, “We don’t have to have him. It works very simply — this is Marvel cinema, not Marvel comics. One thing [Marvel Studios head] Kevin Feige has a genius for is knowing what to hold onto and what to let go of. You can invoke the feeling you had and play with the characters you love and remain true to the needs of the film.” Regarding how this latest known change might affect the plot, Whedon continued,“You’ll have to wait and and see, but you don’t need a Pym to create an Ultron.”.

No word yet on who will play Ant-Man since Lone Ranger star Armie Hammer‘s name was dropped in the rumorsphere, or whether or not Fast And Furious actor Vin Diesel will play Mr. Vision, even though he did dropped a few non-hints the other day for MTV.

Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
