GRISHAVERSE: ‘Bird Box’ Scribe Adapting, Showrunning ‘Shadow And Bone’, ‘Six Of Crows’ Series For Netflix

Chris Whetstone

Bird Box, Arrival and upcoming Bloodshot scribe Eric Heisserer will shepherd a series adaptation of Shadow And Bone, based on Leigh Bardugo’s New York Times and USA Today bestselling Grishaverse book series.

Shadow And Bone was published by Macmillian in 2012 as the first of the Grisha trilogy through 2014. With over 2.5 million copies sold in the English language alone, Bardugo’s Grishaverse books have been translated into 38 languages around the world and counting.

A new installment of the Grishaverse, King of Scars, comes out later this month. As for the series, Heiserrer will adapt and serve as showrunner combining characters from the book, as well as Bardugo’s 2015 tale, Six Of Crows.

In a world cleaved in two by a massive barrier of perpetual darkness, where unnatural creatures feast on human flesh, a young soldier uncovers a power that might finally unite her country. But as she struggles to hone her power, dangerous forces plot against her. Thugs, thieves, assassins and saints are at war now, and it will take more than magic to survive.

New Leaf Literary & Media’s own Pouya Shahbazian (the Divergent series) will serves as an executive producer as well as Heisserer and Bardugo, along with Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Dan Cohen and Josh Barry for 21 Laps (Arrival).
