It’s a good week this week if you’re name is Bong Joon-Ho. The director’s most recent project, Okja, has just partnered with Netflix and Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment banner ahead of its 2017 release and marks the beginning of a new spurt of progress in the wake of his hit sci-fi success story, Snowpiercer.
Incidentally, it turns out that Marty Adelstein’s Tomorrow Studios are optioning the rights to the film as they now see potential for a series according to THR. Sarah Connor Chronicles scribe Josh Friedman has been tapped the hopeful series based on the 2013 movie and its literary predecessor, “Le Transperceneige”, in which an apocalyptic Ice Age takes over Earth, forcing the remainder of mankind to survive on a train that encircles the world where class warfare ultimately erupts in a hail of bullets and blunt objects.
The film starred an ensemble cast featuring Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, Song Kang-Ho, Go Ah-Sung, Octavia Spencer and Ed Harris and saw a rollout with huge successes in various territories around the world long before the battle could finally be won last year to present the film to U.S. audiences in the way Bong intended. Bong and Snowpiercer producers Doo-Ho Choi and Park Chan-Wook are executive producing the new show with Adelstein and Marty Clements producing.
As for Bong’s Okja, cameras begin rolling in April with Tilda Swinton, Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano, Bill Nighy and Kelly MacDonald starring.
