Five years since its announcement, director Daniel Lee’s long-awaited period action thriller, Song Of The Assassin, now has an official trailer and a May 20 local release date. The film is based on author Yuan Taiji’s 2005 novel and stars William Feng along with Jin Chen and Jack Kao.
The skinny? Feng plays Qi Junyuan, a member of an ancient order of assassins on a quest to become the top assassin. When a mission goes awry and left unfinished, the tables are turned as Qi finds himself enveloped in a deadly conspiracy years in the making, and forced to battle his own organization with other assassin clans closing in.
The project hails from China’s LeTV Pictures as part of a major IP acquisition project that also included a webdrama at the time. There’s no word on when the movie will arrive overseas but here’s hoping Hi-YAH! will pick up on it for the U.S..
