After a successful run in prestigious spanish films festivals such as the 33rd Madrid International Film Festival and the 57th Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival, Nacho Serapio´s second directorial effort, Hard Coin (El Duro) starring uprising action hero, Alberto Hidalgo, has landed in US soil with strentgh and success, within the framework of the 12th URBAN ACTION SHOWCASE, one of the most important action and martial arts film festivals in the USA, and therefore, in the world.
The past November 9th, the 12th edition of the well-known URBAN ACTION SHOWCASE was held at the REGAL cinemas in Times Square, in the heart of Manhattan. The event began at 10 a.m. with a film and pop culture EXPO, packed with stars of yesterday and today from this genre of cinema, who were signing autographs and taking photos with the fans.
Among them were actors such as Taimak, known for the film “The Last Dragon”, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in this edition, as well as personalities such as Ron Van Clief “The Black Dragon”, some of the protagonists of the series “Good times”,Some of the stars from Walter Hill´s classic film “The Warriors”, Bobby Samuels, known from numerous Jackie Chan films, or Dennis Greene, from BAD BOYS II, III and IV…
HARD COIN (El Duro), rumbled the festival winning the Award for Best International Action Film and the Award for Best Action Sequence. A great result for an excited Nacho, who jumped of joy when he heard the name of his film among the winners:
“It has been very HARD to get here, at all levels we have encountered barriers and obstacles, people who have not believed in us, and other people who have directly tried to ruin our project. Our sights are now set on further afield.”
Now, waiting to find distribution in Spain, they continue working on new projects on this and the other side of the ocean:
“We have many projects that we are developing, there is a great source of filmmakers passionate about action in Spain, and now they are seeing that it is possible. I will stick with that… and well, with my next project! Although I cannot reveal anything, I can tell you that it is going to be the bomb. A great international action film project, like never before done in Spain.”
On this site we had the privilege of covering Nacho´s “opera prima” BULLETS AND KATANAS”:
A film that, although it had moderate success in Spain, allowed him to compete for the Goya Awards, and become a member of the Spanish Film Academy, since it was a success internationally with more than 20 awards, being available on some of the most important platforms in the world (amazon prime, tubi, roku, runtime…).
