SPIRAL: A Horror Legend Rebooted In The First Teaser

In October of 2004, I met a man who made me think about a very important question: how strong is your will to live? How far would you go to ensure that you kept living? Since 2004 there have been a total of 8 films with Jigsaw asking people this same question and testing them.
Last year it was announced that Chris Rock was creating a *gag* reboot of the Saw films. And I cringed. And I gagged. Not another reboot, I cried out, shaking my fist in the air. Here’s what I knew at the time: According to Joe Drake, Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group chairman, this version “reimagines and spins off the world of the notorious Jigsaw Killer..”
Rock has said that he has been a fan of the Saw films since they began in 2004 and is excited for the opportunity. He will be working with the series producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules who said:

“Chris wants to put his own spin on the Saw franchise in the way Eddie Murphy put a completely fresh perspective on buddy-cop films with 48 Hours. This new Saw is going to be an event film in the making for horror fans.”

Okay, that didn’t sound too bad, but still. If you’re not new to my articles, you know how I feel about reboots and remakes.
Well, I am here today to announce that the release of the first teaser trailer (nearly two minutes long!) may just have me eating some crow. Yeah, it looks that good. Haven’t seen it yet? Check it out:

A sadistic mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in SPIRAL, the terrifying new chapter from the book of SAW. Working in the shadow of an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.

His own spin indeed! Rock is playing a detective paired with Max Minghella (The Social Network, Horns) who both begin to investigate when someone is targeting cops in what I can only assume is in Jigsaw-fashion as we hear Samuel L. Jackson ask if we wanna play a game, see the well-known spiral all over, and see Rock chained up and holding a, you guessed it, hacksaw. Yes, Mr. Jackson, I think I do wanna play this game.

And now I can’t wait until May 15, 2020.
