Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley are on track to write, produce, and direct a new Star Trek movie as of Friday. Per Deadline’s Justin Kroll, the film will be “a completely new take on the Star Trek universe and not connected to any previous or current television series, movie or prior movie development project”.
There’s also the possible addition of new characters as well. Casting details remain pending as this thing brews as it’s only the latest blip on radar for fans who’ve kept up with the IP since Justin Lin’s Star Trek: Beyond, along with Paramount’s ongoing shows and films carrying the franchise since Paramount Pictures’ 2009 reboot with Chris Pine.
A fourth film had been in the works as well with several directors and writers circling the project before dealmaking timetables ran out. With Goldstein and Daley on the ticket, fans can certainly expect something promising on the intergalactic horizon, specifically if they’ve enjoyed films like Vacation, Game Night, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, or Jon Watts’ Spider-Man: Homecoming.
