Contrary to how some may feel about remaking a film like The Crow, I’m pretty optimistic given the progress that’s finally been made following the past several years of the film’s development at Relativity. Actor Jason Momoa, last reported in August as in talks to star in the film under helmer Corin Hardy, is officially on board the film with an eye to start shooting in January of 2017.
The film’s movement, according to The Wrap, is being reported as a treatment attributed directly from the source material instead of a mere reimagining of filmmaker Alex Proyas’s original 1994 adapation of author James O’Barr’s underground graphic novel. Momoa will star as Eric Draven, a musician who, following his gruesome murder and that of his fiancée, is resurrected by a majestic bird to enact vengenace and set the wrong things right.
The film comes in the wake of Relativity Media’s recent recovery from bankruptcy as it now looks to refreshen its image, now finally releasing its forthcoming slate of films including the Halle Berry-led Kidnap and Jared Hess’s Masterminds. Momoa, the current face of Aquaman in Warner Bros.’s current big screen DCEU, also has the Lin Oeding-directed 2017 thriller, Braven following this week’s TIFF premiere in Ana Lily Amirpour’s The Bad Batch.
