Start your engines, folks. Keanu Reeves is now set to appear opposite Don Lee (Ma Dong-seok) on screen for The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil, according to trade news reports on Tuesday. The news marks the latest development in the last several years, and just after the addition of James Wan as director back in March.
Production is being set up at Paramount Pictures for the film with a script by Eric Pearson (Thunderbolts*, Fantastic Four: First Steps) based on previous drafts by Shay Hatten (Resident Evil) and Brian Helgeland (A Knight’s Tale, L.A. Confidential). Lee Won-tae directed the original 2019 pic which follows a cop who, in an act of desperation to take down an elusive serial killer, teams up with a survivor who also happens to be a notorious crime boss, played by Lee.
The film played in South Korea circa May 2019 as well as for the Midnight Section of the 72nd Cannes Film Festival. Well Go USA picked the film up for distribution and released the film in October that year.
The new revisal hails from Wan’s Blumhouse-Atomic Monster banner as he’s producing next to Michael Clear and Jason Blum. Also producing are Lee via Big Punch Global, Sylvester Stallone and D. Matt Geller via Balboa Productions, Chris S. Lee of B&C Group, and Jang Won-seok, CEO of BA Entertainment, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura.
