THE GUYVER: The Bio-Boosted Armor Returns On Blu-Ray This June In Canada

Friday saw Arrow Video donning fresh new artwork with pre-order dibs now up for grabs at Unobstructed View for The Guyver. Released in 1991, the film is based on Yoshiki Takaya’s 1985 manga IP, “Bio-Boosted Armor Guyver”, which drew several runs in various magazines for its posterity, along with two OVA projects.

Joji Tani (a.k.a. Screaming Mad George) directed the pic with co-director Steve Wang, with a screenplay by Joe Woo Jr. that centers on Sean, a young martial arts student who accidentally lands at the center of an intergalactic conspiracy, and must employ the armor as mankind’s last line of defense against a menacing swarm of mutant creatures called Zoanoids, and the monsters moonlighting as humans behind the corporation that will stop at nothing to retrieve the weaponized armor.

Produced by Brian Yuzna (Re-animator), The Guyver is just one of two live-action adaptations in existence, the second of which includes the jet-fueled Guyver: Dark Hero, which Wang himself directed.

The Guyver stars Jack Armstrong, Vivian Wu and genre mainstay Mark Hamill, and you can now pre-order your copy of The Guyver on Blu-Ray ahead of its June 9 street date in Canada.

Mark Hamill (Star Wars) and the team behind horror classic Re-animator join forces for this electrifying live-action adaptation of Yoshiki Takaya’s celebrated manga series!

Having been smuggled out of the mysterious Chronos Corporation by one of its researchers, a bio-weapon known as the “Guyver” unit – which transforms its holder into a lethal super-being – ends up in the hands of Sean, a young martial arts student. Sean soon finds himself in the sights of the Chronos Corporation and its mutant henchmen, who’ll stop at nothing to retrieve the weapon.
Produced by Brian Yuzna (Society, Bride of Re-animator) and co-directed by special-effects masters Screaming Mad George and Steve Wang, The Guyver is an FX-laden extravaganza featuring a plethora of familiar genre faces such as Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes) and David Gale (Re-animator).
