THE HIT LIST: February 24, 2020

I can honestly say that one thing I wasn’t looking forward to doing this weekend, among other things, was fighting a nasty cold and fever. Alas, here we are.

The Hit List is always a welcome labor and thus, we begin with a playlist filled to the brim with stunt demo and training reels from today’s talents: Shawn Bernal, Natascha Hopkins, Eric Miyashiki, Luke Davis, Justin Carney, Patrick Chu, Alejandro Gil, Todd Ryan Jones, Joshua Romeo, Mike Marin, LJ LaVecchia, Linda Kessler, Diandra Stoddard, Brittany Battle, Dani Parker, Cheryl Lewis, Gabriel Lewis, Lexter Santana, Jason Elwood Hanna, Bridgette Michelle, Hugh O’Brien and Jodi Stecyk.

As far as trailers go, the only one on my radar hails from Darren Holmquist whose latest short, Phone It In, is set for a March 28 big screen premiere for the Indie Shorts Showcase at the Laemmle in Claremont, CA. Click here for tickets!

There aren’t any other trailers or promotional tidbits to sift through at this juncture, so we’re just gonna skip right to the jewels we’re here for, and I’m starting this segment with a shortfilm called Mask Up. This one comes from directing duo Silas Borelly and Greyson A. Welch, and centers on a gang of sloppy bankrobbers whose downward spiral commences after a heist gone awry.

Following that is a hearty playlist of practice fights and action shorts beginning with Lauren Mary Kim filming performances by Claire Hoogenboom and Jason Triplett, a little Brotherly Love from Ian and Stuart Williamson, a trio of action shorts by Lee Chesley featuring Osric Chau, Bruce Inaba, Yoshi and Peter Sudarso, and Micaiah Chau, and Chongwei Zhang’s own short, Project K.

Veto Swarn and Nikita Teterev toss blows in Dream VS. Nightmare, Caitlin Hutson tussles with Dominique Smith while Kyle Houstyn and Jerrod Primm compete for The Prize, Eric Jacobus battles creatures of all sizes in his 5-minute Superalloy Interactive short, Cabin Fever (3 mins. BTS footage included), and the newly-married Leroy Nguyen fights to ‘put a ring on it’ in wedding action comedy short, The Ring, from Art School Dropouts and Rising Tiger Films.

Enjoy the hits!
