Managing to keep myself busy with a few things into January, I’ve also come to the realization of how drab post-birthday 2019 is, to be honest. So, I really hoping things turn upward from here on. Season 2 of The Punisher is pretty damn cool too.
Hong Kong cinema legends are the hello-and-good-evening for your enjoyment in all things pertinent to this week’s new installment of The Hit List with an energizing fan tribute to Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao.
The playlist continues with the soothing sounds enlisted for the high-flying visuals of Melanie Peyton-Smith, followed by John Nania, Eric Nieto, Mickey Facchinello, Taz Garcia, Mykola Galagan, Emily Tung, Tyler Street, Sain Ferhad, Heidi Schnappauf, Brea Schneider, Craig Putman, Marvin Ross, Georgie Blackwell, Alex De Lorei, Paul Wilk, Vanessa Cater, Scott Hoffman, Joseph Spano and Becca Buckalew, and a quartet of reels highlighting exciting stunt, fight design and coordinator work by the likes of Renan Medeiros, Hector Cervantes and in light of the release of Vietnamese actioner Hai Phoung (Furie), action stylist Kefi Abrikh.
We have a few trailers as well. Four, even, and we begin with a trailer for Jefferson Lewis III’s newest action short, Ki, as well as a promo for Vlad Rimburg’s now live Deadly Dymes chapter re-matching Lauren Mary Kim and Amy Johnston for another entry into the Kali Diaries, and the full official trailer of Unworthy Productions’ newest sequel outing, Power Rangers: Unworthy – Part 2.
Capping it off is the first official, pulsating trailer for Dead End 2, continuing the international saga centered on the exploits of a contract killer, played by Bryan Larkin. Last year’s Dead End became an award-winning feat at festivals lending all the more reason to service another for willing audiences. Larkin stars once again, directing alongside Ferguson and with a cast that also lists returning actor Julian Gaertner with Chloe Chan, Jai Day, Sam Gor, Matthew Fung, Louis Yip, Wai Sha Chan, Iris Tai, Charmine Lai and Susan Su.
It’s time to get to fighting to finish off, and we begin with a snippet of Dennis Ruel’s definitive independent martial arts comedy feature, Unlucky Stars, which viewers can enjoy in full at the official website.
The playlist continues with practice action by Robin Calvo and Tarell Bullock, followed by Benji Alexander leading the tactical action with Corbett McAllister, Michaela McAllister, Christian Russell, Robert Bennett, Dalia Gonzalez and Wexin Le.
Kamen Ramen reignites the fervor with a remaster of a previous Mortal Kombat fan fight host to Duy Beck and Gee Javier, while Jamey Clay-Brown lenses some practice action for Mario Peoples and Phillip Sahagun, and the now two-part action thriller short series, Runner, directed by Phillip Forteza and starring Sunny Kavana.
Daniel Mah is the subject of a prank gone wrong in a new Martial Club action comedy release, and Raphael Mallari unveils his newest grad school piece, Pushback, before we catch up with Quan Min Le and Nick Messersmith in the new action thriller short, Trafficked, and then sink our teeth into Osric Chau’s ghoulish dealings with Yamaguchi Masa in Re:Anime’s Tokyo Ghoul from Michael J. Murphy and Nik Shaw.
Rounding out the playlist is a surprising entertaining venture in action and drama with Ramel Carter, the story of what one man will do to protect the woman he loves, as well a late doctor’s secret “cure”.
