The Swordsman helmer Choi Jae-hoon’s newest action adventure thriller novel adaptation, The Killer, is proudly getting its theatrical release in the U.S. on July from Wide Lens Pictures and Shaw Entertainment. Collider exclusively shared the official trailer which you can view above.

Ui-gang is a hit man who has decided to retire. He has a nice house and all the money he needs, but one day his girlfriend takes a trip to Jeju Island and leaves him with a request. Her companion on the trip has a 17-year old daughter Yoon-ji who will be left alone during their three week vacation. Ui-gang reluctantly agrees to look after Yoon-ji and make sure she doesn’t get into trouble. But she does get into trouble. Yoon-ji is not a bad kid, but she makes some poor choices, and before she realizes it, she finds herself in a situation far more dangerous than she ever imagined. But just as Yoon-ji is in over her head, her captors too will find themselves with more they can handle when Ui-gang shows up to take her home.

The film marks one of two forthcoming summer releases starring Hyuk, with the other being Well Go USA’s Paid In Blood (f.k.a. Tomb Of The River). The trailer comes following the recent unveiling of the film’s key art for its stateside release several days ago.

The film is produced by Wide Lens CEO Mark Shaw who said the following via Collider:

“We are very excited to be able to announce the day-and-date release on July 13th of ‘The Killer’ in the U.S. and with our partners in South Korea, Ascendio/iHQ. Jang Hyuk, the lead actor, is an action veteran with a huge global following. He has trained particularly hard for this film, and meticulously choreographed all the fight sequences and stunts. Audiences are already huge fans of gritty Korean action films, but combined with the tremendous growth in popularity of Korean web-comics which ‘The Killer’ is based on, we are sure fans will love our movie.

Choi directs from a script by Nam Ji-woong with a cast that also lists Lee Seo-young, Bang Eun-jung and Revenger star Bruce Khan. Head over to the official website for more info on the film’s updates.
