Highland Film Group’s U.S. distribution offshoot, The Avenue, is slating a summer theatrical 2021 joint release with Paramount Pictures handling Blu-Ray, DVD, VoD and Digital rights for action heist thriller, The Misfits. Highland also reps international sales on the pic which wrapped principal photography in Abu Dhabi prior to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Golden Globe nominee Pierce Brosnan (007 franchise, Mamma Mia!) stars as Richard Pace, a world-renowned thief who only steals from those who have insurance. After breaking out of a high-security prison built by a rogue businessman Schultz (Academy Award nominee Tim Roth – The Hateful Eight, Selma), he’s on the radar of a band of modern-day Robin Hoods, The Misfits, led by the eccentric and charismatic Ringo (Nick Cannon – Drumline, Bobby), who offer him a plan to get rid of Schultz by performing an incredible heist that will not only change Pace’s destiny but also save thousands of innocent lives.
Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2, Skiptrace) directed the film from a script by Robert Henny. The Misfits also stars Jamie Chung (Marvel’s “The Gifted,” The Hangover franchise), Hermione Corfield (Star Wars Episode VIII, Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation), Rami Jaber (Tough Love) and Mike Angelo (Surprise, Mr Pride vs Miss Prejudice).

The Misfits is produced by LA-based K Jam Media’s Kia Jam (Lucky Number Slevin, Sin City 2: A Dame to Die For), Dean Altit (Realms) and Mansoor Al Dhaheri (The Platform) whose company, Filmgate, financed the pic. Exec producers are Brosnan and Jaber, along with Caruth, Fraser and Perrier, and with Lee Dreyfuss, Qais Qandil, Jalal Abu Sameer and Petr Jákl.
Harlin is also tapped to direct horror thriller The Refuge which adds to Highland’s current sales slate including Edward Drake’s Gasoline Alley, Herbert James Winterstern’ Supercell, Mark Neveldine’s Panama and Andrew Baird’s One Way, among others.
