THE STUNT DRIVER: First Look Revealed For Comedy Biopic About Legendary Stuntman Ahead Of AFM

A first look photo has been revealed above for The Stunt Driver, the new comedy biopic from Stuber director Michael Dowse. Protagonist Pictures has come aboard the film to handle international sales, revealing the image to international buyers ahead of the American Film Market which launches next week.

Jay Baruchel (This is the End, Tropic Thunder, BlackBerry) heads the cast of The Stunt Driver for a story that recounts the real-life events of Ken Carter, the fearless stunt driver who risks everything to jump a rocket-powered car over the mile-wide St. Lawrence Seaway – a stunt that would have him jump from Canada into the United States. Battling personal demons, public doubt, and a rival daredevil, this is a true-to-life tale of a man’s relentless quest to be remembered.

Rounding out the cast are Ed Helms (“The Office”, The Hangover), Ben Foster (Hell of High Water, Leave No Trace), Laurence Leboeuf (“Shoresy,” “Transplant”), Dan Bakkedahl (“Veep,” Heat).

The Stunt Driver is a heartfelt, laugh-through-the-tears journey — a larger-than-life true story brought to life with Michael Dowse’s trademark warmth, wit, and charm,” said Protagonist CEO Dave Bishop. “With this wonderful cast, the film captures both the wild joy and tender humanity behind the spectacle, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to share it with audiences around the world.”

“I’m thrilled to be partnering with Protagonist to bring The Stunt Driver into the world,” states Dowse. “Ken Carter’s story will resonate with anyone who’s faced long odds and been kicked in the teeth for trying.  He’s an inspiring, beautifully flawed, hilarious underdog. There’s a piece of Carter in all of us.”

Jennifer Wilson (FUBAR: Balls to the Wall) is producing under Film Cardinal, the production banner she shares with writer/director Dowse.  Baruchel is exec producing alongside Mongrel Media’s Andrew Frank.  Joe Iacono and Lisa Wolofsky also exec produce. Telefilm Canada and SODEC are financing. UTA Independent Film Group is representing the U.S. rights.

Dowse is repped by UTA and Fourth Wall Management, Baruchel by CAA and Thruline Entertainment, Foster by Range Media Partners and Felker Toczek Suddleson McGinnis Ryan LLP, Helms by UTA, Leboeuf by K. L. Benzakein Talent and Gilbertson Entertainment, and Bakkedahl by Authentic and Gersh Agency.
