No matter how I look at it, it simply just doesn’t feel right that director Joe Carnahan’s 2010 reboot of the classic television series, The A-Team, never got its just dues for a sequel. Tonally, it felt right and had Liam Neeson leading the way with a great cast that embodied all the tropes of its predecessor. And it had Jessica Biel for the win.
Nonetheless, another big screen take ain’t happening for a long time, if ever. That said, reading the news as of late will take you to any number of reports regarding films being adapted for television. It’s an interesting thing to observe, and that interest now extends itself to The A-Team with word from Deadline. Fast And Furious franchise writer and producer Chris Morgan is pairing with televsion director Tawnia McKiernan, daughter of the original show’s co-creator and late TV veteran Stephen J. Cannell, and writer Albert Kim, for the new series which will pivot its formula to a diverse cast of male and female leads to reprise the roles of our heroic soldiers-turned-mercenaries who lend their services to those in need while on a mission to clear their names for a crime they didn’t commit. Here is the premise for the original program that helped etched the series in memorable TV history:
‘Ten years ago (1972), a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn’t commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire… The A-Team.’
The original show, created by Cannell along with Frank Lupo for NBC starred George Peppard, Dirk Benedict, Dwight Schultz and Mr. T, and aired for five seasons after 1983.
