Tom Hiddleston Is Up For A Lead In THE CROW Remake

Relativity media issued a press release in January of last year announcing the development of a remake of the 1994 sci-fi fantasy action drama, The Crow, to be directed by F. Javier Gutierrez with a screenplay by Jessie Wigutow. Between reports within the last few years, several directors, including Stephen Norrington and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo were named to directed, with lead actors as recently as Mark Wahlberg, James McAvoy and Bradley Cooper whose likeness was used to illustrate some conceptual artwork for the film at the time.

Since then, developments have been slow to materialize until this week with a new report forwarded by Screenrant which entails a dinner attended by producers and actor Tom Hiddleston, who sent the producers a make up test he did in London. According to the article, he is scheduled for a “proper” make up test in the near future.

After about two or three years since talk of the remake began, it is very pleasing to finally see things come together. Hiddleston’s incredible physical and dramatic acting ability was most recently highlighted in performances in Thor and The Avengers. And with fans and writers hyping up the blogosphere in his favor for a lead in the upcoming film, in addition to the type of action that we could possibly see compared to what was possible two decades ago, I think it will be a positive and interesting re-imagining of the classic graphic novel to look forward to a year from now.

The 1994 film was the last film to feature action legend Brandon Lee upon his untimely death before finishing the film.

The Crow, which was directed by Alex Proyas, went on to achive commerical success and is widely heralded as a cult favorite among fans. The remake is being produced by Jeff Most, Ryan Kavanaugh and Edward R. Pressman, with Tucker Tooley, Harvey and Bob Weinstein and Dan Farah serving as executive producers. Filming is expected to start this fall.

Hiddleston is also reprising his role in Thor: The Dark World which will release on November 8, 2013; A new trailer is due out this coming week.
