Tyrese Gibson To Star + Exec Produce DESERT EAGLE For Universal

Actor and musician Tyrese Gibson may not yet be publicly confirmed for the possibility of standing in as the Green Lantern for Warner Bros. since he started campaigning last month via social media. Of course, his fans are very supportive and with any luck, Gibson‘s prospects may eventually lead to some official news between now and the coming year so.

As for all else, he’s still getting involved in other projects and keeping busy, having garnered plenty of momentum from his recurring role over the years in franchises like Transformers and most recently in the Fast And Furious saga for Universal Pictures. Right now, we are approximately two months away from Gibson‘s pending return to the big screen in his fourth stint in the Fast And Furious franchise, director James Wan’s Furious 7, and the anticipation continues to build just as the film gained even more attention with a new Superbowl TV spot over the weekend.

Needless to say, 2015 has gotten off to a pretty neat start for Gibson, and as it turns out, he’s about to get on board as star and executive producer for a new potential action vehicle for Universal Pictures based on a speculative script he wrote with Mike Le for the new thriller, Desert Eagle. According to Deadline, the film centers on “…a pair of border patrol agents who investigate a drug cartel being operated out of a Native American reservation casino.” Scott Stuber will producer with a script rewrite pending by Snabba Cash remake scribes Matthew Stuecken and Josh Campbell.

Desert Eagle definitely sounds like it has some potential beyond a single film. Granted, they’ll have plenty to build from the current plot line we are given and we at least have an idea on what we can expect, so I’m pleased at the moment. Gibson is no stranger to action adventure, drama and crime pics, and he’s a good actor worthy of showcasing his talents. As for Green Lantern, well…you’re more than welcome to read my argument about it by clicking here.

Gibson is also set to star with Jake Gyllenhaal in Southpaw on July 31 this summer following Furious 7. Stay tuned for more info!
