ULTRAMAN: Netflix Debuts The First Official Trailer For Upcoming Anime Movie

This year’s announcements from Anime Expo were some of the most enlivening back in July, including a new animated Ultraman film that some folks nearly passed off as fake news at first. Undoubtedly, it’s as true as any true news there is and the official trailer is out reaffirming this as so.

Kamiyama Kenji and Aramaki Shinji, the minds behind respective credits on the Eden Of The East and Appleseed franchises who are also partnering for another Ghost In The Shell tale, directed the latest evolution of Tsuburaya Eiji’s classic 1966 property. Hailing from Production I.G and Sola Digital, Ultraman is set years after the hero’s disappearance, the new film centers on Shinjiro, who learns of his own connection to the metallic ultra suit that transforms him into the titular hero.

Several years have passed since the events of the original Ultraman, with the legendary “Giant of Light” (光の巨人 Hikari no Kyojin) now a memory, as it is believed he returned home after fighting the many giant aliens that invaded the Earth. Shin Hayata’s son Shinjiro seems to possess a strange ability, and it is this ability, along with his father’s revelation that he was Ultraman, that leads Shinjiro to battle the new aliens invading the Earth as the new Ultraman.

Take note of the trailer and keep this one on your radar through next year as a Netflix release approaches.
