VETERAN 2: Ryoo Seung-Wan’s Crime Thriller Sequel To Film Later This Year

Ryoo Seung-wan will direct a sequel to his 2015 action comedy thriller, Veteran, according to multiple reports now making the rounds online.

Plot details are under wraps, while it is known that actor Jung Hae-in (The Age Of Blood, Start-Up, Netflix series D.P.) is in talks for a villain role. Yoo Ah-in portrayed the antagonist opposite leading man Hwang Jung-min in the inital film.

The latest developments on the sequel come seven years since its announcement upon the first film’s critical and commercial success. Ryoo has since gone on to direct a trio of projects, including last year’s hit political thriller, Escape From Mogadishu, which took home several Bests during last November’s 42nd Blue Dragon Film Awards.

Escape From Mogadishu also took home several more awards along with the Grand Prize from the 58th BaekSang Arts Awards back in May. It was during those festivities that Kang Hye-jeong, CEO of production company Waeyoonaegang, reportedly announced plans to shoot the Veteran sequel the second half of 2022.

Veteran starred Hwang as a beleagured tough-as-nails detective whose mettle is tested when a friend’s life hangs in the balance, following a violent company dispute with a young billionaire who thinks he’s above the law. The won multiple Best Director wins for Ryoo, including also at the BaekSang Arts Awards in 2016.

Jung is currently set to reprise his role in a second season of military drama D.P. for Netflix. Ryoo, after Escape From Mogadishu and Battleship Island, is currently in toe with crime thriller, Smuggling, from Next Entertainment World.
