The long-burgeoning Bumilangit Cinematic Universe continues onward as fans were handed the most recent teaser poster this month for Virgo And The Sparklings. The film is directed by Ody C. Harahap (Skakmat, Hit & Run) and hails from SK Global and Screenplay Bumilangit following their announced partnership back in 2020.
According to comic lore, the story centers around Riani, a teenager with the power to see the color of sound, and who must use her abilities with the help of her band when mysterious forces descend her city into chaos. The film is led by actress and former JKT48 member Adhisty Zara, along with Ashira Zamita and Satine Zanita, among others heading up the roster.
Virgo And The Sparklings was launched in 1973 by late author and creator Jan Mintaraga, appearing in the Kapten Halilintar series and evolving into its own comic IP; Annisa Nisfihani and Elle Goh paired up to revamp the comic in 2017 for Line Webtoon, which serves as the basis for the screenplay from writing duo Rafki Hidayat (Kafir: A Deal With The Devil) and Johnanna Wattimena (The Big 4).
The film marks the latest entry into the BCU following Joko Anwar’s Gundala starring Abimana Arysatya, and Upi Avianto’s latest Pevita Pearce starrer, Sri Asih, which opened locally in theaters earlier this month, and the upcoming Disney+ Hotstar series premiere of Tira from Fly By Night director Zahir Omar, and starring Chelsea Islan.
