Warner Bros., 1821 Pictures Developing Original Action Thriller, BOMBSHELL

The hype-train for female centric action titles isn’t pulling over anytime soon. For this, we turn over to Warner Bros. in their continued partnership with 1821 Pictures for the development of new action thriller, Bombshell.

Bombshell is a secret government program that recruits the world’s pioneering female celebrities to train as spies. The program is the only hope to stop a billionaire mogul who is extorting global leaders to turn all civilization into a police state that he alone controls.

Bombshell was originally conceived by Terry Dougas who will produce along with Paris Kassidokostas-Latsis from a script by Dave Matillo. Alexandra Milchan (The Wolf of Wall Street) will executive produce while Courtney Freedman oversees the project for Warner Bros.

“Bombshell is, at its core, a high-energy, adrenaline-fueled thriller, but it also satisfies the opportune need for more knockout female-focused films,” said 1821 Pictures’ Kassidokostas-Latsis and Dougas. “Dave wrote an incredible screenplay merging strong female leads with an original idea. There is an ongoing void of films empowering women in today’s media landscape, and we’re excited to work with Warner Bros in bringing this to the big screen and turn it into a global action franchise.”

The project is one of several involving 1821 Pictures now in development, including an untitled treasure-hunt action-adventure, also with Warner Bros. and from a script by The Maze Runner scribe Grant Pierce Myers. Keep Bombshell in mind while you enjoy the forthcoming year comprised of other female-driven titles such as Atomic Blonde, The Villainess, and the 2018 release of Taraji P. Henson thriller, Proud Mary, among others. (Deadline)
