Action crime thriller Wash Me In The River will release in Spring 2022 under Highland Film Group‘s distribution label, The Avenue. The company secured multiple deals for the film, directed by Randall Emmett (Midnight in the Switchgrass) from a script by Adam Taylor Barker and Chris Sivertson.

Academy Award Winner Robert De Niro (The Irishman, Taxi Driver), two-time Academy Award nominee John Malkovich (Deepwater Horizon, Being John Malkovich), Jack Huston (American Hustle, Kill Your Darlings), star in the film which centers on a recovering opioid addict seeking revenge on the dealers responsible for selling the drugs that resulted in his fiancé’s death, while two cops are hot on his trail.

The film, which recently wrapped production in Puerto Rico, also stars actor and recording artist Quavo (FX’s “Atlanta,” ABC’s “Black-ish”), and actress Willa Fitzgerald (Warner Bros.’ The Goldfinch, USA Network’s “Dare Me”).

Highland’s The Avenue launched initially late last November with the release of Dimitri Logothetis’s Alain Moussi/Nicolas Cage/Tony Jaa starrer, Jiu Jitsu. The company will distribute Wash Me In The River theatrically in North America, in partnership with Paramount Home Entertainment’s release via Blu-ray, DVD, VOD, and Digital.

“The market response to the film has been remarkable! Randall has succeeded in directing a very commercial film with a strong artistic vision that our buyers have fully embraced. Our trusted international partners had their eyes on the film for some time now, so being able to wrap principal photography with such a stellar cast amid the pandemic is something we are very proud of,” said Highland Film Group CEO Arianne Fraser. “Locking up domestic and significant international distribution for the film demonstrates the appetite for films with powerful storylines and strong performances from proven talent. We are just delighted by the film’s reception in the marketplace,” continued Highland Film Group COO Delphine Perrier.

“We are thrilled to release Randall’s sophomore film and to establish him as an exciting, new director,” said JJ Caruth, President of Domestic Marketing & Distribution of The Avenue.

In addition to the domestic deal, Highland’s multiple international territory acquisitions include Germany (Capelight), France (Studio Canal), UK (Signature), Spain (Inopia), Middle East (Eagle Films), Eastern Europe and Russia (Daro), Australia and New Zealand (Madman), Japan (Happinet), Benelux (Premiere TV), Italy (Italian International Film), India (PictureWorks), Taiwan (MovieCloud), South Africa (FilmFinity), Greece (Spentzos Films), and Portugal (Lusomundo).

Wash Me in the River is produced by Emmett/Furla’s Emmett, George Furla, Tim Sullivan, and Chad Verdi.

Highland’s diversified production and sales slate in part includes Logothetis’s Jiu Jitsu, as well as Edward Drake’s Gasoline Alley, starring Bruce Willis, Luke Wilson, and Devon Sawa; Herbert James Winterstern’ Supercell, starring Alec Baldwin; Renny Harlin’s The Refuge; Mark Neveldine’s Panama starring Cole Hauser and Mel Gibson; and Andrew Baird’s One Way starring Colson’ Machine Gun Kelly’ Baker, Travis Fimmel, and Kevin Bacon.
