Lawless helmer John Hillcoat is no lightweight with his latest unrelenting effort, Triple 9. The red-band trailer recently leaked online but is now legitimately in circulation ahead of its February 19 theatrical and digital release next year from Open Road, and wastes no time immersing you in the dark, violent, gory and gruesome world illustrated in Matt Cook’s script.

In TRIPLE NINE, a crew of dirty cops is blackmailed by the Russian mob to execute a virtually impossible heist and the only way to pull it off is to manufacture a 999, police code for “officer down.” Their plan is turned upside down when the unsuspecting rookie they set up to die foils the attack, triggering a breakneck action-packed finale tangled with double-crosses, greed and revenge.

Bodies in trunks, severed heads, bags of teeth and nudity all wrapped in a hail of bullets, dirty cops, high-speed chases and more – and that’s just the trailer for starters, so consider yourself otherwise forewarned of how eye-popping this movie already looks.
