Watch The New Teaser For REVENGE OF THE POMEGRANATE TREE HILL

Thirteen years is quite a long time for a man to exact his revenge. For director Setsuto Wakamatsu, that’s plenty of time, and a perfect set up for his new film, Revenge Of The Pomegranate Tree Hill (Zakuro Zaka no Adauchi), based on a 2003 short story compilation by author and novelist Jiro Asada.

The first teaser is out as of late last month, and it introduces a more contemplative nature for the film, which is good. Contemplation can lead to character development, suspense and tension, and at the end of it all, a climatic clashing of swords! Perfect isn’t it?

Hiroshi Abe stars opposite actor Kiichi Nakai makes his second mark in Asada’s literary universe since appearing in Yojiro Takita’s 2003 film, When The Last Sword Is Drawn. Filming reportedly began just a few weeks into the year and is set to release domestically on September 20, 2014, courtesy of Shochiku.

SYNOPSIS:

Shimura Kingo is a samurai retainer whose lord Ii Naosuke is assassinated during the Sakuradamon incident. Instead of allowing himself to commit seppuku (ritual suicide) after the loss of his lord, he goes on a mission to exact vengeance against the perpetrators. Unable to end his own life until his mission is completed, he spends the next 13 years tracking down his lord’s killers until he finally finds the last assassin who had since gone into hiding and changed his name.
