Director Justin Lin is out and about this year ahead of the July 22 release of his newest film, Star Trek: Beyond. Following a special fan event in Los Angeles on Friday night, a new trailer was shown in the wake of a first trailer that debuted back in December, much to the chagrin of co-star Simon Pegg at the time. And indeed, given what we see now, he isn’t wholly wrong.
The first trailer was more geared toward an edgy look and feel whereas the new selling point here is the source material, delving into the overall authenticity of what the trilogy has been going for thusfar. At any rate, it gives you everything the first trailer did, but improves the rest and offers a whole lot more to be excited about, and acknowledges the tone brought in by producer J.J. Abrams who directed the first two films.
Chris Pine, ahead of his forthcoming appearance next to Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman next year makes his return to the Captain’s deck as James T. Kirk, now venturing back into deep space for the five year voyage that will engage him and his tenacious crew in seeking new life and new civilizations, and ultimately crossing phaser blasts with a dangerous new threat. Of course!
All the major players, including Simon Pegg, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoë Saldana, Jon Cho and Anton Yelchin are returning with the newly added Idris Elba, Sofia Boutella and Joe Taslim. A new IMAX poster has also been presented ahead of the film’s SDCC 2016 red carpet IMAX premiere on July 20 at Embarcadero Marina Park South in San Diego with the cast attending.
