At least one distinct pattern you’ll find with films emerging this year, particularly from China, appears to be the on-going rescue-themed narratives of late. Such awaits experienced mountaineer and former VP and lead game producer at Gameloft, Fei Yu, whose directorial debut, Chinese/English action adventure, Wings Over Everest, which proudly presented its first trailer at this year’s film festivities in Shanghai.
Actress Zhang Jingchu and actors Koji Yakusho and Taiwan’s Po-Hung Lin star from a script by Yu about a rescue team on the clock with 72 hours to prevent a terrorist disaster. In order to achieve this, they must retrieve high-priority CIA documents from a crashed plane in the Himalayas, journeying them to the “death zone”, a “no man’s land” located nearly 30,000 feet above sea level with temperatures as cold as -40 degrees Fahrenheit.
The film, which was shot in China, Canada and Nepal, partners former John Woo cohort and veteran producer Terence Chang and Wolf Warrior franchise producer Lu Jianmin who previously partnered together on Stephen Fung’s The Adventurers (2017), and will release later this year after The Climbers.
