At least one distinct pattern you’ll find with films emerging this year, particularly from China, appears to be the on-going rescue-themed narratives of late. Such awaits experienced mountaineer and former VP and lead game producer at Gameloft, Fei Yu, whose directorial debut, Chinese/English action adventure, Wings Over Everest, which proudly presented its first trailer at this year’s film festivities in Shanghai.
I admit, it took me a few months to get a grip on the fact that The Adventurers and the upcoming reboot of John Woo classic Once A Thief were the same damn movie being directed by Stephen Fung. That said, I can finally sharpen my focus a bit and follow up on the news as it comes, and now with word that filming is currently underway in Prague following the most recent marriage of Fung and the film’s leading lady, actress Shu Qi.
The film was announced earlier this year at HKFilmart under joint venture Flagship Entertainment with Fung to direct, and also lists actors Andy Lau and Tony Yang, and actress Zhang Jingchu. Rounding out the cast this week according to reports from Chinese outlet Mingpao, is actor Jean Reno, who stars as an inspector in the relentless cat-and-mouse pursuit of Lau’s role, a master thief joined by his crack heist team as they trek through Europe in search of treasure.
Lau joins actors Huang Xiaoming and Wong Cho-lam this October for Flagship’s upcoming prospect, Wong Jing’s Mission Milano ahead of the actor’s December appearance in the ensemble epic, The Great Wall, and Herman Yau’s 2017 actioner, Shockwave. Fung’s The Adventurers is currently slated to release next summer.

Filming is already underway in the U.K. and a number of other international locations, and a batch of set pics have already gone viral for Paramount Pictures’ forthcoming release of Mission Impossible 5, the fifth installment of the self-titled franchise since it began in 1996. Lead actor Tom Cruise is returning with an amalgam of characters spanning the series, namely Ving Rhames who has appeared in all the films, in addition to MI: 3 & 4 co-star Simon Pegg, and actor Jeremy Renner who left his mark in the fourth film as well.
The casting slate has since also added actress Rebecca Ferguson and actor Alec Baldwin with further details remaining undisclosed for the time being. As such, the trend of secrecy is continued on Monday with word that another mysterious character has been added to the film’s unknown plot in the form of actress Zhang Jingchu. Zhang is best known in part for her roles in Tsui Hark’s 2005 swordplay action adventure, Seven Swords, the 2006 Finnish/Mandarin fantasy action epic, Jade Warrior, and the 2007 third outing in the Rush Hour trilogy under director Brett Ratner.
Mission Impossible 5 is produced by Cruise, along with J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk., with a script by Iron Man 3 scribe Drew Pearce. The film is being directed by Christopher McQuarrie for a December 25, 2015 release.
