It will be a while before we learn the details of what lies ahead but it is confirmed that Oscar-winning actor Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All At Once) has booked his next starring gig in With Love, a new action film out of Universal Pictures and 87North. Industry stunt coordinator and second unit director Jonathan Eusebio (300, John Wick franchise, The Matrix Resurrections, Violent Night) will make his feature directing debut from a script being penned by Luke Passmore following up on an original script by Josh Stoddard (Warrior, Kaleidoscope) and Matthew Murray, according to Deadline.
The addition of Quan is especially warming given how long he’s been in the game, and the celebration brought on by his success in the aforementioned Daniels-directed A24 release starring Michelle Yeoh and Jamie Lee Curtis. Adding to the attraction is the stunt professional-turned-filmmaker aspect with Eusebio’s attachment, something that’s long been the bread and butter of my interest in covering action on film after years of seeing the works of creators like Eric Jacobus, Dennis Ruel, Sam Hargrave and Fernando Huerto to name a few. I interviewed Eusebio back in 2015 when he said as much that directing was his m.o., touting his inspiration from watching his mentors at 87Eleven upscale as they have in the past decade, stating in part:
…I came up under my mentors, Chad Stathelski and David Letich and I’m part of 87Eleven with them. But, yeah, I watched them go from stuntmen to stunt doubles, to fight coordinator and stunt coordinator, second unit, and now they’re directing their own movies, and I’m pretty much trying to follow that same progression.
Chalk this up to a hopeful 2025 release as we look to add Eusebio’s name to the bevy of stunt stalwarts staking their claim in the director’s chair!
