Your Next Viewing: COSMOBALL Thrills, Plays To Win

Well Go USA

It all seems like fun and games until you realize the stakes are higher than you thought.

Cosmoball is a game that makes for a nice distraction after an intergalactic war, especially when citizens are struggling to find work and food. Who doesn’t like to let go of their worries by watching an intense and dangerous game? Wait. You haven’t heard of Cosmoball?

This sci-fi movie “takes place after an intergalactic battle that destroys Earth’s moon and causes worldwide devastation, leaving the human race desolate and clinging to survival. The film follows four athletes with the rare ability to teleport, which makes them the only humans capable of playing ‘cosmoball,’ a dangerous sport requiring unimaginable speed, reflexes, and courage. While the rest of the world religiously scans the sky to catch the high-flying tournaments, no one suspects that with each match, they are actually witnessing four young humans fighting furiously to ensure the survival of humankind.”

This was a fun film. I liked the storyline and liked how I got to slowly learn everything about the world, the game, and the backstory as the main character discovered his own abilities and learned more about the game. For me it was a little hard to follow the characters’ names, but this could be because the original film was in Russian and those are names I am not familiar with. I could easily keep track of the characters and their stories, though, so not knowing their names did not affect my enjoyment of the film.

The visuals were great! There were times when I was watching the scenes of Cosmoball being played that I felt like I was watching a video game. The story moved along evenly and the ending was satisfactory.

I made the bad decision to put the audio in English rather than leaving it in the original Russian and reading the English subtitles. The audio was not awful, but it made the film feel different. If you’ve watched anime in Japanese versus the same anime with English audio, you will understand what I mean. Or you can watch it in English and see for yourself.

Go check it out and let us know what you think.
