Have you ever looked at someone in your life and wondered why you were friends with them? Besides laughing out loud, this thought crossed my mind while I watched Richie, Jonah, and Sasha interact. In fact, the film opens with Aristotle’s explanation of types of friendship.
Rob Grant’s Harpoon is labeled as a comedy/horror and it delivers on both. Well, if I’m being honest, I laughed more than anything and wondered why these three amusing jerks were still friends. So what is it about?
Here is the summary from the press release:
Rivalries, dark secrets, and sexual tension emerge when three best friends find themselves stranded on a yacht in the middle of the ocean desperate for survival. With plenty of alcohol and very little food and water, emotions run high and their delusions become a reality. As the days stretch on and death seems inevitable, their terrifying truths float to the surface.
The three interacting with each other kept me entertained and laughing. This film is also referred to as a black comedy, so I guess I should warn you that the humor can be dark and sarcastic. The horror component of the film is the unknown of being stranded in the middle of ocean: how far would you go to survive without food and water? What secrets would a dehydrated person reveal and how would the other two people on the boat react?
This one is bloody but not gory nor excessively violent. There are bursts of action, but more conversation than anything. It moves along nicely though and is only about 83 minutes long. So what are you waiting for?
