Joel Kinnaman Gets Field Tested In The First Full Clip For ROBOCOP

Director Josè Padilha‘s newest film, Robocop, is set to release in North America on February 12, 2014. Promotion is underway for the new film with sets of viral ads and posters, including the international poster you can see on the left for the film’s Chinese release.
Today, IGN has unveiled the first fill clip of the film, which sees lead actor Joel Kinnaman donning the all-black suit as the eponymous half-man/half-machine crime fighter. The suit’s change in color was among one of the things mentioned in a recent interview with production designer Martin Whist published at Comic Book, in discussing what drew his inspiration for the film’s look in relation to the aerodynamics of costume, and much more. “…There are two RoboCop designs in our film.” he says. “The first is very much an homage in color and in design to the first film. I wanted to keep the hash marks on the shoulders and breastplate. The way the original suit was painted was groundbreaking at the time, how, in different lights, different hues of magenta and steel blue come out. The second was the black one, where we were making it a little more current, bringing it into the current visual vernacular of our world, thinking of the design of the original Alien and stealth bombers…”.
Adapted for the screen by writer Joshua Zetumer for a 2D and IMAX release, Robocop stars Kinnaman along with Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael K. Williams, Jay Baruchel, Jennifer Ehle and Marianne Jean-Baptiste. The film is produced by Marc Abraham and Eric Newman, and executive produced by Bill Carraro and Roger Birnbaum.
SYNOPSIS:
In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years – and it’s meant billions for OmniCorp’s bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) – a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit – is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees its chance to build a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.
