BACKSTAGE EMPLOYEES Teaser: Take A Gander At WEST. In Their Big Screen Action Comedy Debut Together
A new teaser dropped on Monday announcing a new action comedy from director Toichiro Ruto, the man who directed recent live action manga adaptations such as coming-of-age actioner G-Men, and Kanna Hashimoto starrer, The Violence Action.
There’s no English equivalent to the Japanese title as of yet but a few rough translations of it read as (and I’m throwing in some curves here for the sake of this article) Backstage Employees: Let Me Be A Spy. I reckon there will be a fix along the way to make that more appealing as the film hits the international sales floor sometime this year, but one major selling point will be the film’s cast, comprised of all members of J-pop group, WEST., in their first movie together, and who even sing the film’s own title track.
Storywise, and I take it this plays into the title, the film focuses on a “backstage employee” hired to infiltrate and tear down a shuttered shopping district for a new commercial complex. Once in, he finds himself clashing with other “backstage employees” from rival companies who’ve already entrenched themselves in the district. The catch? Together, the more of them appear, the more they become lauded by the district’s residents.
That’s pretty much the thick of it right now, while the teaser gives a nice brief look into what’s to come. GAGA Corporation is releasing the film theatrically on May 2.
Check out the teaser, and if you fancy it, peep the website!
