BAKI-DOU Teaser Sharpens Up For A Fight With A Legendary Swordsman In 2026
Creator Keisuke Itagaki’s Akita Shoten publication, “Baki the Grappler” has been around since 1991 and remains a phenomenon for fans of Shonen manga and anime to this day. Its latest screen iteration hails from director Toshiki Hirano with “Baki,” and “Baki Hanma” which chronicles the travails of our titular protagonist as he paves his coming-of-age martial journey through manhood, amid a pool of the world’s best and toughest riding the good and evil paradigm.
That story – packed with martial arts fanservice from style and philosophy to namedrops like Muhammad Ali and a fictional sidestory that centers on his ambitious son – came full circle with our protagonist in an explosive street battle with his revered and equally feared pugilistic father, Yujiro. With the future of the series unknown at the time, Itagaki and Netflix made the case clear with an official teaser for Baki-Dou, presented to the masses during the streamer’s 10th anniversary celebration in Shibuya this week, along with a storyline that promises more namedrops, and a release planned for 2026.
Following his legendary father-son battle against Yujiro Hanma, Baki faces a new threat: the resurrection of Japan’s greatest swordsman, Miyamoto Musashi. As warriors like Doppo Orochi, Jack Hanma, and Kaoru Hanayama return to the fight, the stage is set for an unprecedented clash—the strongest underground fighter vs. the legendary samurai, in a cross-era showdown.
