BLOODSTRIKE Creator Developing Live-Action Film With ‘Deadpool’ And ‘Daredevil’ Stunt Coordinator To Debut Direct
Stunt professional Phillip J. Silvera is eyeing to direct a live-action adaptation of Image Comics property, Bloodstrike. The announcement was made on Thursday with Silvera partnering to develop the film with comic creator Rob Liefeld who broke the news along with a proof-of-concept shown via Instagram.
“I have waited to connect with a director with the same zeal for the material, someone who can nurture it to the finish line, be a true partner in the process” wrote Liefeld, who continued with how he met the seasoned stunt coordinator and performer on the set of 2016’s Deadpool and what transpired from there. He added that Silvera had been there for him at the beginning of his career, and expressed his love of comics and appreciation for Liefeld’s “library of Extreme characters,” explicitly naming Bloodstrike as the one that stood out.
“He told me we were going to make a film together and he meant it. During the pandemic we got serious and he said he had a few jobs he had to complete before he could turn his full attention to Cabbot and the boys at Project Born Again. He promised he would create and direct a proof of concept for Bloodstrike, showing me his exact approach.”
In the comic which launched in 1993, Cabbot is the leader of the top-secret U.S. assassination squad whose members had already died before being revived via government program Project: Born Again, becoming members of the unit in the process.
Silvera’s stunt career spans nearly two decades in with select credits in stunt and fight coordinating that also include Run All Night, and the first two seasons of “Marvel’s Daredevil,” as well as Deadpool 2, Netflix series “Jupiter’s Legacy,” Terminator: Dark Fate, The Man From Toronto, and Paramount+ series “Halo.”
