BLUE FIGHT: Meet The Fight Roster In The First Poster For Takashi Miike’s New MMA Thriller
Following the launch of YOAKE FILM back in August, the company’s first project, Blue Fight (or idiomatically titled Blue Fight: Breaking Down Of The Blue Youth), is gearing up with a full spread of the cast in a poster that debuted over the weekend. The poster comes following a spell of behind-the-scenes updates and casting announcements in the last few months made via the YOAKE FILM YouTube channel.
Blue Fight (shorthand for the purposes of this article) comes from director Takashi Miike of Crows Zero and The Mole Song franchise fame. Miike makes his return to fisticuffs once more here for his latest MMA thriller with the help of executive producers ex-MMA pro Mikuru Asakura and entrepreneur Yuji Mizoguchi, both who shepherd Japan’s hit reality combat sport series, “Breaking Down,” from which Miike’s film takes its storied inspiration.
Miike directs from a script by Shin Kibayashi (NTV’s “The Files Of Young Kidaichi”), and a cast led by actors Danhi Kinoshita and Kaname Yoshizawa, who were reportedly selected from a casting call of up to 2,000 auditionees. Based on Asakura’s own autobiography, Blue Fight centers on juvenile detention mutuals Ikuto (Kinoshita) and Ryoma (Yoshizawa), who find themselves in-roads at a chance to win glory in a grand mixed martial arts tournament. The action and drama heat up when conflict arises upon the entry of a new rival.
Blue Fight also stars Mariko Shinoda, Anna Tsuchiya, Chikashi Kuon, Kyosuke Yabe, Wataru Ichinose, Konatsu Kato, On Nakano, Karma, Shota Nakayama Shota, and Riki Sanada, along with actor and comedian Saya, actor and influenfer Shuzo Ohira, actress and idol Miku Tanaka, actors Nobuaki Kaneko and Susumu Terajima, and acting and music sensations Katsunori Takahashi, and superstar GACKT.
YOAKE FILM will roll out a special 90-minute cut of Blue Fight through its SVOD platform on November 13, followed by a theatrical release in Japan cinemas on January 31, 2025 in association with Gaga.
