Moviegoers can currently catch the voice of actor Bradley Cooper as a talking raccoon in Marvel’s latest box office hit, Guardians Of The Galaxy. In the meantime, the star best known for his roles in such films as Limitless, The A-Team remake, and prominently in writer/director Todd Phillips’s road comedy Hangover trilogy is currently on the path to work on forthcoming Mack Bolan project.
Deadline is reporting this week that Cooper may possibly reuinte with Phillips as star and director of the film, respectively, following earlier reports of the new deal that was set in place with writer Shane Salerno spearheading the efforts for a potential trilogy he described would be a “relevant, grounded and gritty, real-world, PG-13 action-drama film series”. Salerno solidified the deal recently with Gold Eagle Books and the estate of late author and war hero Don Pendleton, who launched the male oriented action novel series in 1969.
The novel series, whose current readerships spans over 40 countries to this day with well up to 900 volumes published and distributed over the last four decades to date, centers on Bolan, a highly-skilled weapons expert and elite sniper who served two tours in Vietnam as a Green Beret, whose 90-kill record earned him the nickname, The Executioner. When an Army chaplin informs him of the murder/suicide of his father, sister and attempted murder of his brother, he learns the truth and ultimately turns to vigilantism, waging a one-man war against the Mafia-a move that would ultimately put him back in the throes of the government.
Cooper‘s casting also comes decades after the project languished as Pendleton and a handful of producers shopped the film to several actors who were interested for a time, namely Steve McQueen, Clint Eastwood, Sylvester Stallone and Vin Diesel. Cooper may also produce the film with Phillips and Salerno for their own banner under Warner Bros., with Warner Bros. Pictures senior VP of production, Drew Crevello and Warner Bros. creative executive overseeing the production.
Cooper‘s next film will arrive approximately this Christmas for his upcoming appearance in director Clint Eastwood’s new bio-pictoral action drama, American Sniper, based on the 2013 autobiographical publication from late author and decorated Iraq War veteran Chris Kyle.
