BROWN BEAR!! Attacks Japan Cinemas. Catch The Trailers!
Liverleaf and Forgotten Children director Eisuke Naito is back on radar as of last month to scare things up in grizzly fashion with Brown Bear!!. The film is currently making the theatrical rounds with a cast led by prolific film and TV talents Fuku Suzuki (A Boy And His Samurai, Zokki) and Wan Marui (Mondays, Hikari wa Doko ni Aru).
18-year-old Kosanai (Fuku Suzuki) receives his college acceptance letter the day his father, a victim of a fraud scheme and heavily in debt, commits suicide. Giving up on continuing his education, Kosanai turns to the same shady part-time job that drove his father to the brink…
One day, Kosanai takes part in a kidnapping operation, promising the highest payout, but before he knows it, the job also involves the murder and abandonment of his target, Wakaba Sakurako (Wan Marui). He carries her into the forest and is about to kill her when…!!! An unprecedented and unpredictable story unfolds.
Rounding out the cast are Joey Iwanaga, Yu Uemura, Ryuju Sumikawa, Fusako Urabe, Shin Shimizu, Satoshi Kaneda, and Takashi Ukaji, with title track “Knuckle Duster” by The Bercedes Menz.
The PR for this flick has been going for a while now with its promos and clips, including some cool behind the scenes tidbits featuring Wan herself in action. It looks like a blast, and the film also has a great team on board including VFX Supervisor Oda Issei who last worked on Netflix series “Tokyo Swindlers” and Naito’s Toxic Daughter, Tomo Hyakutake whose make up artistry served well on Shin Godzilla, Golden Kamuy and even Naito’s Liverleaf, and cinematographer Moritada Iju who worked on the first two Baby Assassins films and subsequent TV drama, “Baby Assassins Everyday”…
