Actor Iko Uwais has been reaching some increasingly newer peaks of late. The photo above, a still from his upcoming directorial debut, Timur, is just the latest first in a pending rollout of firsts hailing the martial arts star’s new production label, Uwais Pictures. Also in toe is martial arts thriller, Ikatan Darah (or Blood Bond), directed by Sidharta Tata who previously helmed TV dramas “Pertaruhan,” and action horror “Zona Merah”. Uwais and his team made the announcement at the Uwais Pictures Press Conference Launch & Slate Announcement event at XXI Plaza Senayan on Tuesday. Both films are part of a newly announced production slate under the Uwais Pictures banner, which itself specializes in fight choreography, action design and stunts. An extensive new first look is online for Dark Deal, the new action crime thriller from TKO Productions. The clip features lead actor Braden D. White who leads a cast that also lists Lilly Sunshine, Mattea White, Carl Rhonin, and Rodney Smith. White plays an ex-spec ops soldier forced back into action when an old foe threatens his family. The clip showcases White in character as he takes out several henchmen following a raw deal involving fake drugs and a duplicitious cohort. Dark Deal reteams White with director David Ferguson on the pic following their previous collaboration on crime thriller, Double Cross. Depending who you are among manga readerships, this could very well extend to the audience being courted for Demon City, the latest production from the streamer launching February 27. Seiji Tanaka (Melancholic) is directing from his own script which is based on Masamichi Kawabe’s 2020 comic series, “Oni Goroshi”. Demon City stars Toma Ikuta (Netflix series “Beyond Goodbye”) in the role of Shuhei Sakata, a hitman seeking vengeance for the deaths of his wife and daughter, against an organization of strange masked criminals who control the provincial city of Shinjo from the shadows. Emmy winner Kiefer Sutherland’s new action thriller, Sierra Madre, is making the rounds in Las Vegas this week with casting addition as of Tuesday. Production is underway in Colombia as well, with world sales firm Highland Film Group repping the film on the ground at AFM this week, showcasing a first look still from the film which you can view above. Fans of “The Stath” will be sure to get some more action in 2025 with Mutiny, from Plane director Jean-François Richet. Actor Jason Statham revealed a first look at the film in an Instagram post on Monday with production already underway in the UK. After his billionaire industrialist boss is murdered in front of him, Cole Reed is set up to take the fall for the crime — leaving him on the run as he works to uncover an international conspiracy. Lionsgate took North American rights on the pic ahead of Cannes earlier this year and is releasing the film wide in theaters in 2025. Richet is directing from a script by Lindsay Michel and Plane scribe JP Davis. Munity also stars Annabelle Wallis, and hails from Mad River Pictures and Statham’s Punch Palace label. Netflix unveiled a pair of stills for a first look at Uprising, a new period thriller directed by Kim Sang-man, and produced by legendary auteur Park Chan-wook. Uprising is slated for an opening night world premiere at the 29th Busan International Film Festival on October 2. Set against the chaos of war, Uprising takes viewers on a gripping journey through the lives of two childhood friends-turned-adversaries. The cast of the film includes Gang Dong-won, Park Jeong-min, and Cha Seung-won, along with Kim Shin-rock, Jin Sun-kyu, and Jung Sung-il. Kim directs from a script by Park and co-scribe Shin Chul. A new poster is out touting Takeshi Kitano’s new subversive crime comedy, Broken Rage. Kitano directs a cast that also lists fellow Kubi co-stars Tadanobu Asano and Shidō Nakamura, and Nao Omori, along with career cohort Hakuryu for the Amazon MGM Studios-produced flick. Kitano’s Broken Rage explores “comedy within a violent film,” to redefine the norms of the yakuza crime genre. According to the film’s description, “the first half follows a hitman, Nezumi (played by Takeshi Kitano), fighting for his survival when he’s caught between the police and yakuza.
