BLACK MASK: Pre-Orders Are Now Up For The Fully Uncut 1996 Jet Li Actioner From Eureka Classics

Following the Eureka/MVD output deal, the official details are now out for Black Mask, director Daniel Lee’s high-octane 1996 sci-fi martial arts action thriller starring Jet Li, Karen Mok and late screen thesp Patrick Lung. The upcoming Eureka Classics re-release marks latest update from the deal as one of two titles announced last week, with Black Mask resurfacing once again following its theatrical U.S. release from Artisan Entertainment in 1999. The new version is a limited edition, remastered and restored in 2K and will be a fully uncut version of the film debuting in the UK on April 22, and made available for the first time in the U.S. on Blu-Ray from April 23. Only 2000 copies are available per territory and will feature an O-card slipcase and collector’s booklet, plus a bonus disc featuring an alternate Taiwanese cut and an extended version of the film. Streaming Sleepers: Upi Avianto’s SRI ASIH: THE WARRIOR Now Available On Tubi

I’m holding out for a Blu-ray grab of director Upi Avianto’s latest Bumilangit dibs with Sri Asih: The Warrior. In the meantime, the film quietly rolled out on the free ad-supported platform, Tubi where you can now check out the successor to Joko Anwar’s BCU launchpad that was Gundala in 2019. Based on R.A. Kosasih’s 1954 comic, actress Pevita Pearce stars in the title role of Avianto’s iteration as an MMA fighter destined for greatness as a force of evil threatens the city. THE MOON Makes Landfall On Disc And Digital Next Month!

Debuting on Digital, Blu-ray and DVD beginning February 27 is Kim Yong-hwa’s rollicking space adventure, The Moon. The disc will come with bonus materials comprised of behind-the-scenes content and character bios, and the film itself is a treat you can read more about here. Seven years after Korea’s first fully manned mission to the moon ends in disaster, a second human spaceflight is launched successfully—until a strong solar wind causes the spacecraft to malfunction. With an astronaut left stranded in space and quickly running out of oxygen, the Naro Space Center turns to its former managing director to avert yet another fatal catastrophe. The Moon stars Sol Kyung-gu, Doh Kyung-soo and Kim Hee-ae.

Jet Li Action Thriller BLACK MASK Kicks Off MVD/Eureka North American Catalog Partnership

Director Daniel Lee’s 1996 gory action sci-fi thriller, Black Mask, will get a hyper-kinetic Blu-Ray revival in North America later this year through a new deal announced on Tuesday between genre labels MVD and London-based Eureka Entertainment. The two brands announced the distribution deal which would pave the way for a North American rollout of Eureka’s award-winning Blu-ray catalog to North America for the first time. “It’s extremely exciting to be partnering with MVD for our North American physical and digital distribution,” said Kevin Lambert, former Head of Content at Arrow Films who joined Eureka! in 2023. “We can’t wait to get our first releases out to US retailers, and we look forward to bringing the best of auteur and classic cinema, including our celebrated Masters of Cinema series, to a wider audience. I have yet to see the complete resumé of filmmaker Park Hoon-jung’s work. What I can assert for the most part from what I’ve seen is that if you’re looking for an absolute thrill, you won’t be disappointed. His most recent effort, The Childe, is exemplary of this. Little was known about this film’s plot from the outset of its release campaign, and brilliantly so considering what little there was to promote without being spoilery, for the most part. For what its worth however, the logline is simple enough to be enticing for anyone who loves an envigorating cat-and-mouse thriller out of South Korea, particularly one whose story is set between worlds, and with a cast of lead actors whose roles are budding opposites with one another whilst ultimately finding commonality as the plot thickens.
