CELLS AT WORK: Mei Nagano And Takeru Satoh Battle To Save The Human Body In The First Teaser!
As much as I try to keep up with Japanese news outlets, a lot of updates tend to take me by surprise. Maybe it’s just a time zone thing, I’m not sure, but my day started with a delightful look at Cells At Work, the latest live-action adaptation from Hideki Takeuchi, director of the Fly Me To The Saitama and Thermae Romae movies.
“Cells at Work!” is a bestseller manga series written and illustrated by Akane Shimizu, published in Kodansha’s “Monthly Shonen Sirius.”
This innovative series, which brings the inner workings of the human body to life by personifying cells, quickly captured the hearts of readers and became a sensation.
With over 10 million copies in circulation and multiple successful spin-offs and anime adaptations, its popularity knows no bounds.
And now, this beloved story is making its grand debut as a live-action feature film!
Cells At Work is set to arrive in December and features Hell’s Garden actress Mei Nagano, who played a small role in 2012’s Rurouni Kenshin. That franchise’s action-adept leading man, Takeru Satoh, also stars in the new movie, who in turn rejoins his Rurouni Kenshin stunt coordinator Takahito Ouchi, whose recent feats can be further seen in Sho Tsukikawa’s Netflix hit, “Yu Yu Hakusho”.
Read on for more from Warner Bros. Japan including the logline, and enjoy the teaser!
The film stars the talented Mei NAGANO as the diligent red blood cell and the charismatic Takeru SATOH as the brave white blood cell (neutrophil), sharing the spotlight in this dynamic double lead role!
Helming this exciting project is none other than Hideki TAKEUCHI, the visionary director behind hits like “Fly Me to the Saitama” and “Thermae Romae.” The action sequences will be brought to life by the renowned action director Takahito OUCHI, known for his work on live action “Rurouni Kenshin” series and “Yu Yu Hakusho.”
Together, this dream team from the pinnacle of Japanese entertainment promises to create a world like no other—a truly original visual feast that must be experienced on the big screen. This winter, embark on a breathtaking journey inside your own body. Welcome to “Cells at Work Wonderland,” where you’ll laugh, cry, and learn!
