Dwayne Johnson Announces His Role As Black Adam In SHAZAM For New Line

It’s high time the truth came out this week, long after comic book and movie fans were aching and itching for actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to just “say the word”, as he so eloquently put it in an interview with Total Film about a month ago.

Plans are already underway to accumulate feature films based on famed DC Comics comic book characters, including Warner Bros. current production of Batman V Superman: The Dawn Of Justice. One other such film that’s been hyped like crazy is the upcoming production of Shazam, originally rooted at Fawcett Comics as Captain Marvel by artist C.C. Beck and author Bill Parker. As per a lawsuit at the time, Fawcett Comics relenquished the character and all Shazam-related characters to DC Comics between 1972 and 1991, including Black Adam who didn’t appear in the comic series until 1945 from Beck and writer Otto Binder.

Fast forward and almost seventy years later with Shazam undertaking different properties from film to television and games, and New Line Pictures is now up to take on the classic character with Hiram Garcia attached to produce. Moreover, after months and weeks of hype, doubt, and even MORE hype, Johnson finally took to Twitter to make it official, confirming his upcoming role as Black Adam in the new movie, tweeting the following:
Variety reports Goosebumps scribe Darren Lemke is penning the script which centers on alterego Billy Batson who can transform into the superhero by saying the name, granting him the powers and abilities from that of mythological gods. Announcements for a director and other cast are still pending. Garcia also co-produced Johnson’s upcoming disaster thriller, San Andreas, for a June 5, 2015 release.
